NHAI Contacts Haryana Government Regarding Missing Service Roads on Dwarka Expressway
NHAI writes to the Haryana government highlighting the absence of service roads along the Dwarka Expressway. Urgent action is needed to resolve this infrastructure gap.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has written a letter to the Haryana government addressing several concerns regarding the construction of the Dwarka Expressway. They've emphasized the importance of addressing issues like the lack of service roads along the expressway, drainage problems in residential areas nearby, and encroachments at Bajghera, urging the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to take prompt action.
The chairman of NHAI expressed disappointment that despite repeated requests, necessary work has not been carried out. The Dwarka Expressway, a significant project costing 9000 crore, is being constructed in four phases. However, NHAI highlighted that essential aspects like service roads, crucial for controlled access to the expressway, have not been developed as required.
The letter also pointed out concerns about unauthorized access to the expressway due to delays in constructing sector roads by GMDA. This poses safety risks, as unauthorized entry could lead to accidents. Despite NHAI's efforts to address these issues with GMDA, no substantial progress has been made.
Furthermore, NHAI emphasized the need for GMDA to construct drainage systems along the expressway to prevent flooding in adjacent areas. They also mentioned the failure to provide necessary land for infrastructure like the Bajghera underpass, which has led to constraints in completing essential road widening.
NHAI also raised financial concerns, stating that GMDA owes 26.59 crore for the construction of a master sector drain along Central Peripheral Road, a part of the Dwarka Expressway project. Additionally, NHAI highlighted expenses incurred due to utility shifting along the expressway, which GMDA has yet to address.

In response, the Haryana chief secretary mentioned not receiving any formal communication from NHAI regarding these issues. However, a spokesperson from GMDA assured that necessary steps, including the tendering process, are underway for the construction of service roads and drainage systems along the Dwarka Expressway.
In summary, NHAI's letter underscores various challenges hindering the smooth progress of the Dwarka Expressway project and calls for urgent action from the Haryana government and GMDA to address these concerns.
