Dwarka Expressway opening is delayed again to open after October
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has confirmed that the opening of the Dwarka Expressway has been delayed once again. The expressway, which is India's first eight-lane elevated road, was originally scheduled to open in August 2023. However, NHAI officials say that the remaining work on the expressway is taking longer than expected and that it is now unlikely to open before October 2023.
Dwarka Expressway cloverleaf link to be complete by September end
The work to connect the cloverleaf junction on Dwarka Expressway with Delhi Gurgaon Expressway (NH-48) and the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) is expected to be completed by the end of September 2023. This will allow traffic to flow smoothly from Dwarka Expressway to NH-48 and SPR, and vice versa.
CAG flags the high cost of Dwarka Expressway
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has flagged the high cost of the Dwarka Expressway project. The CAG report says that the project cost has increased by more than 14 times from its original estimate. The report also criticizes the NHAI for its poor project management and lack of transparency.
NHAI expresses dismay over officials' inadequate response to CAG on Dwarka Expressway
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has expressed dismay over the inadequate response of NHAI officials to the CAG report on the Dwarka Expressway project. Gadkari has asked the NHAI to fix responsibility for the cost overrun and to take corrective action.
Despite the delays and cost overruns, the Dwarka Expressway remains a major infrastructure project that is expected to have a significant impact on the Delhi-NCR region. Once completed, the expressway will provide a much-needed alternative to the congested Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. It will also help to boost economic activity in the region by connecting Dwarka, a major residential and commercial hub, to the rest of the city and the NCR.
